John Dicks (actor)
John Dicks (born 23 July 1947) is an English stage, film and television actor. His stage work includes appearances with the RSC, and in Andrew Lloyd Webber's flop musical ''Jeeves'' in London, 1975, in which he also sang on the rare recording. His film appearances include ''The Empire Strikes Back'' (1980), ''The First Kangaroos'' (1988), ''Flirting'' (1991), ''Return to the Blue Lagoon'' (1991) and ''Queen of the Damned ''Queen of the Damned'' is a 2002 vampire film directed by Michael Rymer, loosely based on the third novel of Anne Rice's '' The Vampire Chronicles'' series, ''The Queen of the Damned'' (1988), although the film contains many plot elements from t ...'' John Thomas Dicks (1818–1881) was a publisher in London in the 19th century. He issued popular, affordably priced fiction and drama, such as "shilling Shakespeares and wonderfully cheap reprints of Walter Scott, Scott and other standard authors." Earlier in his career he worked with Peter Perring Thoms and George W. M. Reynolds. Employees included illustrator Frederick Gilbert. Readers included Thomas Burt and Havelock Ellis. Dicks retired in the 1870s, when his sons took over the firm which continued into the 1960s.
